The thought occurred to me that I probably should set short term goals along the way to break up the trip to weighing 220 lbs by January 2012.
The first and most obvious goal is to weigh in under 400 lbs. That said, I have 28 lbs. to go to reach my first goal of 399 lbs. I'll use 2.5 lbs. loss per week as the factor.. which means 11.2 weeks.. ok we'll call it 12. This puts the date at or around April 1st.
I think I can reach this sooner that April 1 but we'll go with that date and set a new goal if I reach it early. After hitting the 399 mark, the next goal will be 350 lbs.

Great job on the treadmill! When I first started at 272 lbs, I could only last 15 mins and I thought I was going to die!! So out of shape, sore, couldn't breathe, etc. But I'm so glad I stuck to it, day in and day out. It really is all about consistent, persistent effort. You will be surprised at how fast you'll build up and be able to do more and more. The treadmill finally got too easy...wasn't getting my heart rate up anymore, so now I'm trying to conquer the elliptical. Man I hate that thing, lol, but I'll beat it!!
ReplyDeleteYour idea of short-term goals is an excellent one. I decided early on that I wanted to make this journey as fun as I could, so I set 15 lb mini goals. Every time I reach one, i buy myself a small treat to remind me of my progress. Maybe a new shirt, or a cheap bracelet, or an inexpensive kitchen item to help me out. It's a great idea and keeps the motivation up! :)
thank for the encouragement Tammy.. one small goal at a time.
ReplyDeleteGood plan. Makes it seem much more attainable when starting out.
ReplyDeleteGreat plan! I know the short term goals were my saving grace. I looked at 200 pounds and thought, "Oh hell no." I looked at 30 pounds by my birthday and thought, "I can do that. That's 10 pounds a month." Since then I've just redefined my short term goals as I've met them.
ReplyDeletethanks guys.. i'll be trying to hit that goal sooner.
ReplyDeleteShort term goals were very helpful to me. Much easier than viewing it as a whole.
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
I think the short term goals idea applies to lots of areas of life whether it be weight loss, cleaning out your garage, or doing a big project at work. Good plan!
ReplyDeleteHi there :o)
ReplyDeleteYou are making great progress in such a short time! I'm glad i found you, and i look forward to following your journey.
I too have about 200lbs to lose. I started blogging my 'progress' 3 years ago, but i never ended up keeping anything off and just got [more] depressed.
But due to varies reasons, this year is it for me, so my whole family is involved this time. 2010 is IT! :o)
cactus.. glad you found my blog. i wish you all the success in the world. family is critical for me and will help you too. stay on the course, read blogs when you want to eat and keep it in your head constantly what your plan is.

Great goals post!!!
ReplyDeleteReading blogs when you want to eat completely helps take the temptation away and fill your head with other thoughts! I think if you follow your plan you will really surprise yourself and reach your short-term goals in no time. I was looking at your goals and I don't know if you schedule fits this but it can be better for your metabolism to eat 4-6 smaller meals a day instead of 3 big ones.
ReplyDeleteYour brain needs carbohydrates in small amounts every 4 hours and after 4 hours if it doesn't get it is when things get difficult and temptations pop up. If the carbs are mixed with lean protein it keeps your blood sugar from rising and then plummeting and keeps you fuller and satisfied longer. If you find only 3 meals a day is hard to stick to I would recommend reading about this and trying it out to see if it works better and you are more satisfied :)
I think making short term goals along the way is crucial and very smart! Thanks for the follow and I can't wait to see you blow that under 400 out of the water!
ReplyDeletethanks for the encouragement everyone. sweet tooth.. thanks for the advice. I had thought about eating 5 smaller meals but my family eats 3 a day and I would like to fit into that routine. I do have fruits or carrot sticks in between if I feel the urge. I will keep it in mind though.
