February 27, 2010 Weigh In: 412 lbs, Lost 0 lbs

Another zero sum week for me. Looking back at what I ate there were a few days I approached 1900 cals but stayed around 1500 most days. I think the main culprit is that aside from working out side in the snow yesterday I didn't exercise once this week. I have to change this.

I did have a big loss last week, and I didn't gain any weight which is good. I have to figure out a way to make it a habit to exercise. I have a reminder in my Blackberry that comes up every day at 8am. This week when it popped up I was usually getting ready for a conference call or something and I just pressed "Dismiss". I'm going to try changing the time of my workout and I'm going to ask my kids to stay on me to do it.

I won't give up.. and I will find a way to work exercise into my life.

  2. Glad to hear there was no gain....and yes, exercise will make all the difference. When I was having a hard time getting started with it, one of my blog friends said it's not something you think about, it's just something you do...as routine as taking a shower or brushing your teeth every day. Something about that perspective shoved me in the right direction and now it truly is something I just "do". :)

  3. You are doing great! Within my first few weeks I gained.. and I tend to gain at least once a month (being a woman sucks sometimes!) So, a few maintaining weeks is nothing! Keep up the good work.. good luck with the exercise! You'll love it once you get going.

  5. You should check out Tom's blog at http://ihategreenapples.com

He wasn't losing anything so he had his RMR and BMR tested and it turns out his body was going into survival mode instead of burning fat. He actually had to increase his calorie consumption to lose weight.

Anyway, it's just something to look into.

  7. Exercise will definitely make a difference, but don;t worry too much about the zero. With how much you're losing the other weeks you will see it from time to time.

  8. What time works better for you in the moring or afternoon? R the kids old enought to do this workout with you? What kind of exersice are you doing? Sorry for all the questions. This was hard for me to at first. Once I found a set time it was easier.

  9. ETL-

Just my opinion, but 1500 calories sounds awfully low for someone of your size. I worry you may be in starvation mode which slows your metabolism. I wrote an article a while back on how to determine your calorie needs, you can find it -HERE. It's not foolproof, but I've found it's a good starting point for determining what will work best for you. I'm in the 280s and the calculators say I need to eat 3500 calories to maintain my body weight. I eat approximately 2500 calories a day and still lose 1-2 pounds each week. Lately I've started trying to eat 2000 calories hoping to pick up another pound each week, but I'm struggling to get there without feeling hungry all the time. Good Luck and don't worry about the goose egg; it happens to everyone.

  10. Raise that importance level on the exercise, and make it a non-negotiable element of your schedule. You're doing absolutely fantastic---and you're seriously on your way my friend. I'm very happy for you---because I know how wonderful this transformation feels. It's incredible. And it's coming for you too. That's exciting!
    My best always my friend,
    Sean
